Glocal Center

Glocal Center was established by Tottori College of Nursing and Tottori College in April 2017. This center is carrying on the legacy of the former Regional Exchange Center and Northeast Asian Culture & General Research Center. By utilizing educational and research resources of the two colleges, we are working to provide additional support to the regional community in the fields of culture, education, welfare, health, and industry. We are also striving to contribute further to academic studies and to the local community.

In order to communicate a wide variety of information to communities both local and abroad, Glocal Center focuses its exchanges and research on the five sectors shown below.

※Please note that initiatives and activities of Regional Exchange Center and Northeast Asian Culture & General Research Center are now continued by Glocal Center as of 1st April 2017.

The 5 Sectors

Regional Studies and Education

In addition to conducting research to promote community engagement, we organize public lectures, seminars, and tours of our colleges, and create publications such as the 'Glocal Center Newsletter' to disseminate information to the local community. Furthermore, as a result of our research to promote community engagement, we publish the 'Glocal Center Annual Report,' which includes research papers by our faculty, reports on departmental activities in the community, and details of the Glocal Center's activities.

Promotion of Community Engagement and Contribution

To promote students' learning in the community, we coordinate volunteer activities and participation in local events. Additionally, as a base for the “Local Health Room” project, we are in charge of coordination and liaison with the community, as well as public relations. We also create opportunities for interaction between our colleges and the community by organizing events such as the Glocal Festival.

International Research and Exchange

We promote the development of individuals who can thrive in a global society by conducting exchange programs, establishing academic agreements, and carrying out research and studies, targeting not only Asian countries but also a broader international audience.

Collaboration to Connect Local Governments, Industries and Educational Institutions

We are strengthening industry-government-academia ties by liaising and coordinating partnerships between local governments, businesses and educational institutions.

Promotion of collaboration and exchange with alumni

As the alumni association office of "Tottori College of Nursing" and "Tottori College", we are in charge of organizing general meetings and managing alumni associations, and we publish newsletters and email magazines in order to deepen mutual friendship among alumni.

Main Initiatives

The Center is engaged in various initiatives (see list below), accommodating the needs of the local community and providing consultative services for regional exchanges and utilization of college facilities.
Glocal Center connects the community to our two colleges by providing opportunities for locals to interact with our lecturers and students and allowing access to research and educational resources wherever possible. Additionally, we have some researchers and make every effort to carry out studies concerning the relations between the community and our colleges and support their special reseach.

How about a visit to our college?

We can arrange for you to visit our colleges and attend lectures.
We help local community members, groups and organizations with event planning by organizing short lectures (held by faculty staff) and a tour of “Kasuri (Indigo Dyeing) Museum & Kasuri Laboratory“.

Volunteer Support

Our colleges help students develop their self-management and communicative skills through volunteer activities. Glocal Center’s Volunteer Support Desk aims to help students’ volunteer work meet public needs (in areas of communal and social involvement) by liaising and supporting volunteer activities and providing necessary information.
